Controversy[ edit ] Anthropologist Helen Fisher in What happens in the dating world can reflect larger currents within popular culture. For example, when the book The Rules appeared, it touched off media controversy about how men and women should relate to each other, with different positions taken by columnist Maureen Dowd of The New York Times and British writer Kira Cochrane of The Guardian. Sara McCorquodale suggests that women meeting strangers on dates meet initially in busy public places, share details of upcoming dates with friends or family so they know where they’ll be and who they’ll be with, avoid revealing one’s surname or address, and conducting searches on them on the Internet prior to the date. Don’t leave drinks unattended; have an exit plan if things go badly; and ask a friend to call you on your cell phone an hour into the date to ask how it’s going. If you explain beautifully, a woman does not look to see whether you are handsome or not — but listens more, so you can win her heart. That is why I advise our boys to read stories and watch movies more and to learn more beautiful phrases to tell girls. The Internet is shaping the way new generations date. Facebook , Skype , Whatsapp , and other applications have made remote connections possible. Online dating tools are an alternate way to meet potential dates.

While partisanship among voters usually does not change much on a yearly basis, some differences have widened over time, especially by educational attainment, gender and age. And these gaps are even larger when categories are combined, such as education, race and gender. While the overall balance of leaned party affiliation has not changed much in recent years, this is the first time since that as many as half of registered voters have affiliated with or leaned toward the Democratic Party.
Since , the last midterm election year, there have been notable changes in party identification among several groups of voters. Terminology[ edit ] The term “diploma mill” originally denotes an institution providing diplomas on an intensive and profit-making basis, like a factory. While the terms “degree mill” and “diploma mill” are commonly used interchangeably, within the academic community a distinction is sometimes drawn. Academic diplomas may be legitimately awarded without any study as a recognition of authority or experience. When given extraordinarily, such degrees are called honorary degrees or honoris causa degrees.
Also, in some universities, holders of a lower degree such as a bachelor’s degree may be routinely awarded honorary higher degrees such as a master’s degree without study. The term “diploma mill” may also be used pejoratively to describe a legitimate institution with low academic admission standards and a low job placement rate, such as for-profit schools. Characteristics[ edit ] Diploma mills share a number of features that differentiate them from respected institutions, although some legitimate institutions may exhibit some of the same characteristics.
Accreditation mill The most notable feature of diploma mills is that they lack accreditation by a nationally recognized accrediting agency. Note, however, that not all unaccredited institutions of higher learning are diploma mills. Diploma mills therefore employ various tactics in an attempt to appear more legitimate to potential students.

Date codes on Parker Pens Updated Oct In mid Parker began marking most pens and pencils with a date code, both the barrel and the nibs were marked, but lacking a date code doesn’t necessarily mean that the pen was made pre , since many imprints have been worn off with use. The first date codes, found for example on the Vacumatics, consists of two digits, the first one denoting the quarter of production, the second denoting the production year.
Hence a “47” marking on a ‘s pen indicate that the pen was produced in the fourth quarter of , not , which is a common misconception. In the second quarter of this system was however changed to save production time, and a new date code, using a system of dots, was adopted. While some fear that failing to earn a college diploma will lead to a life of fast-food work or another low-paid occupation, that’s not exactly the case, according to a new study from CareerCast. With foresight and planning, workers who lack college degrees can have a successful career with middle-class incomes.
While the upside to earning a college degree is well documented, with young college grads earning about 50 percent more than peers with only high school educations , not everyone is able to afford college tuition. Others may opt against college because they don’t want to be saddled with debt, while some might feel it’s not the right fit. You can still have a very productive career with very respectable earnings if you don’t have a four-year degree. How I realized it was OK to date a man less educated than I am
I’m naturally smart but intellectually lazy and I think completing college would have disciplined my mind. My best friend is finishing up her Masters in American Lit and I am in awe of her intellectual powers. That said, I’ve managed to do quite well for myself. The only problem is, I hate my job and feel unfulfilled. Looking back on it, I was probably rebelling against my parents, who both had PhDs. They can’t figure out how to do things without asking a million questions, usually the same questions, over and over again.

This is a guest post from Jay Cross. You know, just in case that year ever comes back. Most people who apply for scholarships get nothing. Continuing to preach this outdated advice is worse than useless: It actually patronizes how challenging it is to finance your education.
Associate Degree Nursing NOT Intended For Transfer Thank you for your interest in the Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) program at James Sprunt Community College.
Anonymous It wouldn’t be a deal-breaker. The problem with degrees is that they’ve been devalued at the same time as they’ve been inflated, if that makes sense. Employers can do that because the cost of creating a job has increased, which has led to more unemployment. I don’t know really. Because of my own hard work, I actually managed to go to an excellent college, but I admit I would not have gone except that I pretty much had to in order to get a good job.
I don’t think it’s shallow to reject someone because of a lack of college ‘education’. But it’s not very well thought out. If money’s the reason behind it, you would surely have to make exceptions.
